This wonderful antique Victorian 14K solid gold oval-shape locket was made in the 1870s-1880s. The surface has a layer of rich and smooth high karat bloomed gold. It has an ornate horseshoe and ribbon decor with 4 small seed pearls on the front. Stylistically, it's a Etruscan Revival design which strives to reclaim the glory of the ancient Italians. It is very old (over 100 years old) and still gorgeous with all the expected fine details.
There are two small monograms on the front that appear to be "SH". Opening from the back, it reveals one compartment to store your photo, a lock of hair, or a love note! So precious! It still retains its original bezel and glass cover and silk liner. A few tooth-bite marks, a spot of wear near the bottom and the rich surface patina truly indicates the age and history this piece has gone through.
*The listing is for the locket only. If you need a chain, I would be happy to provide a 18" gold filled chain at no cost. The chain style varies depending on what is available in my inventory. Please send me a note at or before your checkout.
Size: It measures about 1 & 7/16" long (just counting the oval not the bale and jump ring) and 1 & 1/8" wide.
Locket weight: 9.4 grams.
Metal: Top layer is 18K high karat bloomed gold over 14K solid gold (unmarked but tested with electronic tester and confirm with acid).
Condition: good antique condition with age appropriate tarnish and wear. All components are original. A few small tooth-bite marks/dents, scratches and wear on the front as mentioned above. The hinge and closure are in a very good working condition. Please refer to all the listing pictures for the general condition.
