This breath-taking old European cut/transitional cut diamond 6-prong platinum engagement ring is the perfect representation of the ultimate elegance from the Art Deco Era.

The diamond is 2.86 ct, K color, and VS1 clarity. Importantly, it is certified by the most respected gem authority: Gemological Institute of America (GIA): Report Number 2205455423, dated July 17, 2019, stating Color: K, Clarity: VS1, Cut Grade: Good, Polish: Good, Symmetry: Good, Fluorescence: None. This featured diamond is mounted on a classic 6-prong vintage Art Deco platinum setting. The shoulder of the ring has delicate and ornate leaf shape carving. The unique design of the mounting accentuates the brilliance and elegance of the center diamond.

As you may know, a lot of old cut diamonds on the market have lower colors and contain visible inclusions. Sadly, this is due to the fact that over time many of the high quality old cut diamonds have been re-cut to make modern round brilliant diamonds. Based on my observation, J/K color are the most popular colors among many old cut diamond lovers, as they are very white when faced up and a slight tinted body tone is only noticeable in a certain lighting or angle or only to a sensitive eye. So, an old cut stone in a desirable color range and with few inclusions is extremely rare. In fact, high quality stones like this one are currently priced at a value higher than their modern round brilliant counterparts!

The cutting style of the center stone is technically a transitional cut style, which is a diamond cutting style in between traditional old mine/old European cut and modern round brilliant. It was popular from about the 1920s through the 1940s. In my years of experience in collecting and observation, the most beautiful and charming old cut diamonds come from the transitional cut category. This one is no exception as it has the classic characters of a perfect faceting transitional cut stone: a slightly bigger table, longer and blocky facets, with lower crown, and a smaller culet compared to early old European cut. However, unlike modern round brilliants, the girdles of these stones remained unfaceted/unpolished. It exhibit a gorgeous flowery pattern with wonderful light play in a lot of light environments and frankly it is absolutely charismatic!
