This gorgeous substantial antique 15K solid gold oval-shaped locket is from the second half of the 19th century. This locket remains in beautiful condition with two original bezels and original bale. More importantly, it is hallmarked 15C, which indicates it is English origin as 15CT gold jewelry were produced by England prior 1932.

The front of the locket has a raised ornate crest-shaped motif. The center of crest is highlighted with a white and fiery old mine cut diamond (approx. .20 ct) set in a starburst pattern. The back is clean with no engravings. Opening from the side, it reveals two large compartments for photos.

*As a personal preference, I am always inclined to collecting solid gold lockets, especially those with clear hallmarks, if my budget allows. Also, I like Victorian lockets in this style a lot. The classic starburst design of the locket (highlighted with a shiny diamond on the front) makes it perfect for every day wear or special occasions.

Measurements: 2 & 5/8" from top to bottom (2" long without the bale) and 1 & 9/16" in width.

Metal and Hallmark: It is marked "15C" inside the bale and a series of hallmarks are found near the bale on the back, which could be maker's mark (I am still researching).

Locket weight: approx. 32.9 grams.

Circa 1880s.

Condition: very good antique condition with age appropriate tarnish, scratches, and wear. A tiny ding/scratch on the back (hardly noticeable but mention to be accurate). It has two original photo frames/bezels. It opens well and closes securely. Please refer to the pictures for the overall condition.
