Extra Large Antique Oval Sterling Silver Locket, Arts and Crafts Pendant, 17" Original Chain

This is an extraordinary antique sterling silver oval-shaped locket! Emboldened with a striking radiant pattern circling the center, it was likely made around the turn of century (late 1800s-1900s).

Opening it reveals two large compartments for photos or a lock of hair. Contrary to other sterling silver lockets made during the Victorian period, this one has the feel of solid and weighty significance. It is a magnificent heirloom piece you will own with no regret!

The locket is hung on its original 17" braided chain.

Measurement : 2 & 3/8 inches long (including the top bale) and 1 & 7/16 inches wide.

Metal and hallmark: Locket is marked "STERLING" and a series of maker's mark on the back; the chain is unmarked sterling silver.

Locket Weight: about 21.5 grams (hefty!); 40.2 grams including the chain.

Circa late 1800s-1900s.

Condition: very fine antique condition with minor wear, scratches, and patina. No dents. It has a clean compartment inside with no bezels. Photos cut to fit into the rim will stay secure. The locket opens well and closes firmly with a snap. The spring clasp of the chain is a later replacement. Please refer to all the listing pictures for the general condition.
