This is a fabulous and sought after antique Victorian solid gold (10K-14K) round-shaped locket with 6 sparkly rose cut diamonds each set in a starburst design. 


The back has hand engraved monograms that appear to be "EMG". It came with a 18K interlocking link chain that appears to be from the same era.

As a passionate antique locket collector myself, I have a big love for Victorian starburst lockets. And I have sold many similar pieces (some are solid gold and others are gold filled) over the years in my store. The popularity of the starburst locket can be attribute to its clean and chic design, which makes it perfect for every day wear or special occasions.

Measurement: Locket- 1 & 1/16 " in round (excluding the top bale and jump ring); Chain-2 mm link width, 17.5" long. Rose cut diamonds range from 1 mm-2 mm. All measurements are approximate.

Metal:
Locket- unmarked, The gold content ranges from 10k-14K. The chain is 18K. They were tested electronically and confirmed with acid. I believe the locket was intended to be made in 14K. In the old time, mixing alloy was done manually and the proportions were not always quite as precise as they are today. This slight variation has occurred in many many antique jewelry pieces that I have come across.

Total Weight: approx. 11.9 grams. Locket: approx. 5.4 grams; Chain: approx. 6.5 grams

Circa 1890s-1900s.

Condition: very good antique condition with age appropriate tarnish, nicks/scratches, and wear. The locket has two original photo inserts/bezels. It opens well and closes securely with a click. Please refer to all the listing pictures for the general condition.
