Antique Victorian 10K Gold Rectangular Black Enamel Taille D'Epargne Photo Locket, Circa 1800s
This is a very old and charming locket made in the mid-to-late Victorian era! Made from 10K solid gold, the front of this locket is carved with black enameling floral details with the Taille D'Epargne technique. A textured pattern and a crest shape cartouche (it is engraved "FME") are on the back.
Like many Victorian lockets, it has an ornate hanging setting at the top. The locket has a very neat design in its opening mechanism: one needs to pull out the horizontal hanging rod to open the locket (see images 7 and 8). The locket opens and reveals two compartments with one original bezel and one glass photo cover inside (indicating the piece was made at or before the turn of twentieth century) on one side, and a old photo on the other side. It is a lovely example of Victorian mourning jewelry!
