This late Georgian/Regency Period memorial ring will simply take your breath away!!

Crafted in 18K gold, it features a glittering crimped collet set rose cut diamond on a royal blue guilloché enamel panel, surrounded by 10 lustrous split pearls, forming the classic garland motif. Two additional split pearls adorn the ring's shoulder along with floral carving. The ring is finished with a smooth and graduated shank. This type of ring is intended to be a memorial or sentimental ring with the back oftentimes engraved, but this ring survived untouched, which is highly unusual.

Based on "Georgian Jewellery 1714-1830" by Dawes, Ginny Redington on Pg. 120: Enameling was out of fashion for a large part of the 18th century, but became fashionable again from the late 18th century among all classes. Due to the soaring demand, they were made in both enamel and cheaper substitutes, like such as foiled paste and Bristol glass, with pearls substituting for the more expensive diamonds.

Circa 1790s-1830s

Measurement: Center diamond: 4.3mm x 3.1mm. Judging within the setting, the stone appears to be very white (colorless range). Since the diamond is closed-back, it is impossible to precisely gauge full weight and specifics of the diamond. Rose cut is one of the earliest diamond cutting methods. As they were mostly hand cut and seldom perfect, it is normal to see inclusions, tiny chips & rough unpolished sides / edges for diamonds cut and produced in that period. Also, please keep in mind that these diamonds are not measured, cut or graded by today’s modern standards, but they have tons of antique charm that modern diamonds cannot be compared with. Split pearls: range from 4.6mm-3mm. The face up dimension is approx. 19.2mm x 13.2mm in diameter; rise above the finger is approx. 5.5 mm. Band width: ranges from 11mm-1.9mm.

Mounting metal: 18K gold (unmarked but tested). Size: 6. It can be resized easily by a jeweler.

Manufacture method: hand set.

Weight : 6.8 grams

Condition: very fine antique condition with age appropriate wear. The enameling is in a great shape with apparent damages but a couple of age related scratches seen under magnification. All split pearls have great luster with no apparent damage. One split pearl on the shoulder appears to be a tad smaller than the setting, indicating a right size pearl was not available at the time or could be a replacement in antiquity. No one can be 100% sure and all we can wish for is if the jewelry itself could talk :)

Overall, an extremely charming old ring.
