This breath-taking antique solid platinum diamond lorgnette opera glasses pendant was made in the Belle Époque style, which is a quintessential jewelry design prevailing during the Edwardian Era.

This lorgnette pendant has ornate and delicate platinum filigree design throughout the frame and handle with a total of .30 ct white and sparkly old cut diamond accents. A lorgnette is a pair of spectacles mounted on a handle, used to hold them in place, rather than fitting over the ears or nose.

The word lorgnette is derived from the French lorgner.  The lorgnette was usually used as a piece of jewelry for fashionable ladies, rather than to enhance vision. As you can imagine, these were very popular at masquerade parties and used often at the opera. They were worn popularly in the 19th century to early 20th century.

*The listing is for the lorgnette pendant only. This lorgnette pendant is originally paired with a long platinum bar link chain , which is offered through a separate listing.
