Antique 14K Solid Gold 0.12-0.13CT Old Cut Diamond Locket Necklace, Carter, Gough & Co, Monogram EFB, 24" Chain
This classic 14K late Victorian/Edwardian diamond locket with its original 24" long braided chain is a must-have piece for your personal wardrobe. In fact, it has traditionally been the most popular antique adornment piece.
The locket was made by CARTER, GOUGH & CO., one of the leading jewelry makers based in Newark, NJ from the second half of 19th century to early 20th century.
🎆A similar example can be found in Pg 11 of 1916-1917 Margolis wholesale Jewelry Co. Catalog (see the last image).
The center of the locket has a chunky flush set old mine cut diamond (approx. 0.12-0.13ct, white and sparkly). You can see the dance of the diamond fire from a far distance!
More importantly, this amazing old piece still remains in an impeccable condition as the locket still retains two original frames/inserts, and two plastic crystal covers , which is ready to store your precious memory.
There are artistic monograms that appear to be "EFB" on the back.
Size: approx. 1 .5" in diameter (without counting bale and jump ring), which is a relatively large size locket compared to the conventional size( 1" or 1.25") lockets.
Metal and hallmark: both the locket and chain are marked 14K. The locket is also struck with the trademark of CARTER, GOUGH & CO.(spearhead with letter "C" inside).
Total weight (with chain): approx. 30.3 grams; Locket Weight: approx. 19.34 grams.
Circa 1900s-1910s.
